Challenges are fun! from twiddletails

I recently joined another small group, the focus of which is to challenge your creativity. And it's so much fun!

Every quarter someone from the group presents a challenge word or phrase and we have 3 months to make a little quilt interpreting that phrase. We are restricted to a maximum size of 20" x 20".

Sometimes I'm really inspired, sometimes not so much.

These are my quilts from the last 3 challenges:

"Round and Around We Go"

"Slow"

"Twisted Triangles"

I encourage you to challenge yourself! You'll be amazed at how creative you are, even if ...

Time Flies from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and Happy President's Day. It's another wet morning here at the Three Cats Ranch. We've been promised some drier, warmer weather later in the week. I sure hope so. It would be good to get out and pull some weeds before we take off on our trip.

Yesterday morning, I spent quite some time trying to generate an image I could use for Project Quilting's fourth challenge: "Hourglass." We could go off in any direction with this, but we were required to use the hourglass shape in our quilt. I had an ...

Ring of Fire from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! It's getting late enough in the season that there's actually light shining in through my window as I write. Some of us have dealt with a spate of bad weather recently, and so these changes are appreciated.

There's been entirely too much running around the past two days for this homebody. I'm happy to say I have a day at home today. There's one more thing I need to do in town, but if I bat my eyes at Mike, I might be able to talk him into combining it with ...

Finally Nearing a Flannel Finish from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was necessary to blow out of here early yesterday morning. My appointment with the new dermatologist was at 10:30 a.m. As a new patient, I was asked to arrive at 10:15 to fill out the inevitable paperwork. By 10:50 a.m., I was still waiting to be taken back to the exam room. It's irksome to be asked to arrive early, and then left to wait well past one's appointment time. It wasn't long before I was taken back, but then I waited another 10 minutes or so ...

The Reveal: Freckled Frog from ... Cat Patches

Good morning my friends. It's time to reveal my quilt for the "Patterns in Nature" prompt. My quilt was inspired by the Northern Leopard Frogs we encountered while hiking in Fort Ransom State Park in North Dakota. This is my original photograph. You can see more pictures from our hike at that link I've given you.

Initially, I didn't see how I was going to recreate him with the fabrics I had available. Then, I came across a swatch of this McKenna Ryan fabric in my stash. Doing a quick internet search, I was able to find ...

All Slow from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's true I didn't think I would be blogging today, but here I am. You know me...such a blabbermouth. After today, I am going to take a couple of days off. The carpet installation is set for tomorrow. We've been getting little reminder emails and texts from the crew that will be here to do it. All I know is that it will be nice to have things put back where they belong. New soft carpet on bare feet will be nice too.

My energy all went to slow-stitching yesterday. I'm ...

Sailing into the Sunset from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. How is everyone doing this morning? Just now Mike read off the week's forecast to me. It looks like it's going to be smooth sailing for our carpet installation on Monday of next week. Temps are supposed to get up to 58°F that day. Why, it's practically bikini weather...if I were still wearing bikinis...which I am not.

It was a busy day of sewing yesterday. Originally, I'd planned to finish off the When Quilter's Gather block. When I headed into the sewing room, I changed my mind and ...

Free At Last! from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm happy to announce that we are free to move about the city...for now, at least. It's been an unusual couple of weeks of weather. Snow isn't unusual in these parts. Ice isn't unusual either, unfortunately. But to get hit boom, boom, boom with snow, ice, and more ice was quite unusual. Fortunately, our temperatures have warmed into the 40s and 50s range, and it has been raining. The ice and snow can't last long under those conditions.

Sadie spent her morning yesterday conducting tests of the new French Roses ...

WIPs Away from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's been raining, and our little dusting of snow has melted away. We're expecting quite a bit of snow this weekend, with the possibility of freezing rain on Tuesday. And if you've been paying attention, then you know that our carpet installation is scheduled for that day. I have a sneaking suspicion that it isn't going to get done as scheduled. Oh well...as usual, the best laid plans...No worries. We're continuing on with our preparation anyway. This morning I'm writing from my temporary office at our dining room ...

Birdie Bungalows from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Our snow isn't lasting long. It's a slushy, patchy, wet mess outside, having rained overnight. Unfortunately, we're heading into a very cold snowy few days this weekend, with a possibility of freezing rain on Tuesday. Since that's the day our carpet installation is supposed to happen, it looks as if we're going to be delayed. For not too long, I hope, but we'll just have to wait and see. We're continuing with our efforts at getting ready for it. I love a good period of chaos and pandemonium, don ...

Snowy Landscape from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. So, we're sitting in bed reading last night when we hear the unmistakable sound of snow sliding off our metal roof. There was a chance of snow in the forecast, but the stars were going to have to align perfectly. We weren't really expecting anything. Looking outside...HOLY SMOKES! Look what can happen when you turn your back for just a second.

Well, of course I needed to see the measuring thingy we bought recently. So I looked outside with a flashlight shining through the window, but it was too dark to see clearly ...
